Princess Latufuipeka donates food to TPL line mechanics

About 80 employees of Tonga Power Limited received food packs from Princess Angelika Latufuipeka Tuku’aho, who is also the High Commissioner to Australia.

The food donation will help the employees who have dedicated their time and effort to get power back on to all homes and businesses following the wrath of Tropical Cyclone Gita last month.

TPL General Manager for Operations Setitaia Chen said, “This gift of food from the Princess is a welcome blessing and I am sure it will be appreciated by the staff. It will help us with the cost of feeding our team as large amounts of food and water are delivered each day to cater for the daily needs of these staff”.

“Tonga Power has committed a large number of staff towards the network restoration in Tongatapu. They need food and water on a daily basis to be able to carry out the works to restore power,” Chen said.

The food donations were distributed this week to the areas where the crew worked including Navutoka, Liukava, Fo’ui, Keleti Beach Resort, Sia’atoutai, Mataika, Halaleva, Kolofo’ou and Tofoa.

The princess also visited Tonga Power Ltd office to receive a briefing on the importance of Renewable Energy and how it impacts Tonga’s foreign aid relationships with overseas countries.
