‘Rio in the Pacific’ to start in Australia

The Leniata Legacy (TLL) is bringing Rio to the Pacific through its signature annual fashion show, Pacific Fashion Festival.

The dress theme of the third PFF to be held this Saturday, October 8, in Australia has been set as “Rio in the Pacific”.

The theme choice is tied with the Rio Olympic game that took place in August this year.

To get the audience involved, local ‘Milagro’ band will play tunes to set the mood of Rio and guests have been encouraged to dress in their own creative interpretation of Rio in the Pacific.

According to the organisers, each year, a different city is featured in the theme. Last year was ‘Paris in the Pacific’.

“Every year we will choose another city to use with our fashion event. It also gives us opportunities to learn about other cultures and the struggles they face in relation with DV and gender base violence,” a representative told Loop PNG.

The event will not only inspire but entertain, showcasing local and international Pacific Island fashion designers, models, photographers, make-up artists and performers displaying their talents on a professional level.

Furthermore, Erue Taunao, former Miss PNG 1988 who represented PNG at the Miss World in England and Spain, will be guest speaker at the event.

Taunao brings her own story to the Pacific Fashion Festival of how she experienced violence and how she has turned her life around and conquered it.

She is a personal trainer and an accomplished yoga teacher.

Some of the Pacific Designers involved in this event will be Earthnic Girl by Cathy Amaiu, Rako Designs by Letila Mitchell and well established designers such as Hupfield Hoerder Designs and Robert Kennedy from Fiji.

TLL has partnered with Pasifika Women’s Alliance in organising this event, together with other dedicated volunteers and leaders in the Pacific Island communities.
