Broncos pair allegedly involved in heated altercation at Brisbane bar

Members of the public allegedly had to intervene to prevent a brawl between Brisbane utility Corey Oates and retired Broncos great Justin Hodges at a Brisbane bar on Saturday night.

According to the Courier-Mail, the former team-mates had been at a function at Doomben Racecourse before moving on to the ‘Sixes and Sevens’ bar in Fortitude Valley.

Things reportedly became heated when Hodges, who now has a commercial role with the Broncos after retiring at the end of the 2015 season, lost patience with Oates and threatened to ‘put one on his chin’.

“Corey was pretty drunk and making a bit of a racket but Hodgo was ready to go,” a source told the Courier-Mail.

“They had been drinking all day and all night and as the night went on they started to get a bit sh**ty with each other.

“Hodgo was ready to shape up at him (Oates) but it all got broken up before anything too serious happened.”

Broncos centre Jack Reed was with Oates and Hodges but was reportedly not involved in the incident.
