Caitlyn Jenner should face vehicular manslaughter charge

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will recommend to prosecutors that Caitlyn Jenner face a vehicular manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal car crash in February this year.

The incident on California's Pacific Coast Highway left eight people injured, and resulted in the death of one woman.

Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said investigators have concluded that Jenner's driving was "unsafe for the prevailing road conditions" (via The AP).

The department also presented an account of what happened, saying that Jenner, driving a Cadillac Escalade and hauling an off-road vehicle behind, tried to avoid cars slowing down for a traffic light.

The Cadillac then struck two cars and pushed a Lexus into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision between the Lexus and a Hummer.

The recommendation will be presented to prosecutors next week, with the district attorney's office making the final decision on whether to charge Jenner.

The former Olympian would face up to a year in county jail if convicted of the offence.

Jenner is also facing a wrongful death lawsuit from the children of Kim Howe, the woman killed in the crash.

The I Am Cait star released a statement shortly after the incident to express her "deepest sympathies" to the victim and her family, in addition to denying that she was texting while behind the wheel.
