Digicel Nauru introduces new Chief Executive officer Francis Thomsen

Digicel Nauru has today announced the appointment of Francis Thomsen as Chief Executive Officer.

In his new role, Francis will have responsibility for driving positive change for consumers and businesses within the island nation and ensuring that Digicel continues to reduce barriers and increase the quality of services for their customers.

Francis Thomsen has been with the Digicel family for 7 years, and joins Digicel Nauru from Samoa where he was Chief Operating Officer for the past 3 years.

Francis is very passionate about Mobile Financial Services with key projects including the successful launch of Mobile Financial Services using Near Field Communications (NFC) technology in the Kingdom of Tonga and Samoa.

NFC technology is used to deploy a unique e-voucher payment system for the Government of Samoa and the World Bank’s Disaster Recovery Programme, which enables mobile phone technology to broaden access to financial services for the most remote and rural communities, ensuring that those in need of assistance receive monetary aid within minutes. He also spearheaded the Deployment of WiFi/Telephony and ICT tailored services for UNSIDS held in Apia, Samoa on October in 2014.

Before joining Digicel in 2009, Francis worked in the finance industry with Coopers & Lybrand Samoa and in the FMCG industry as the General Manager for British American Tobacco Samoa.

Francis Thomsen has very strong Pacific and European family roots.

“Francis will be a very valuable asset for Digicel Nauru, he comes with boundless knowledge to help the business grow” said Digicel Nauru’s outgoing CEO Ben Kealy.

After 18 successful months as Chief Executive Officer of Digicel Nauru, Ben Kealy will remain within the Digicel family as he takes up the Chef Executive Officer in Tonga.
