Fiji to Host 2015 Oceania Rugby Junior Trophy

The 2015 Oceania Rugby Junior Trophy will be hosted by the Fiji Rugby Union at ANZ Stadium, Suva between 27 November and 5 December, 2015.

The 2015 Oceania Rugby Junior Trophy will be hosted by the Fiji Rugby Union at ANZ Stadium, Suva between 27 November and 5 December, 2015.

This was announced by FRU CEO Radrodro Tabualevu at a Press Conference on Friday.

“We are pleased to announce that the Fiji Rugby Union will host the 2015 Oceania Rugby Junior Trophy.”

“There are four teams that will play in the tournament, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Vodafone Fiji U20.”

Oceania Rugby Tournament Director, Wayne Schuster said the qualifiers promise to be an exciting tournament as the four nations would be vying for a spot in the World Rugby Junior Trophy.

“The winner of this tournament will qualify to join Samoa in representing the Oceania region at the World Rugby Junior Trophy in Zimbabwe in April next year” Schuster said.

“The Oceania Rugby Junior Trophy is an exciting opportunity for our emerging talent in the region and will give local fans the opportunity to see the next generation of players from the four respective nations. 

“We are looking forward to watching a great spectacle of Rugby and we strongly encourage the fans and families to come and watch the emerging stars from the Oceania region..” 

The rankings for the 2015 Oceania Rugby Cup were determined based on the final results of the 2015 World Rugby Junior Trophy and 2012 Oceania U19s Championship. 

The rankings for the tournament are as follows: 

1. Tonga 
2. Fiji 
3. Papua New Guinea 
4. Vanuatu 

The qualifiers will be played in a four (4) team round robin competition over three (3) rounds. At the conclusion of the round robin competition the team with highest number of competition points will be declared the 2015 Oceania Rugby Junior Trophy winner.
