Fiji ready for Tonga

The Juan Carlos Buzzetti-coached Vodafone Fiji team will not underestimate Tonga when the two sides clash in an international friendly at Govind Park in Ba this evening.

With Tonga preparing for the upcoming preliminary qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Fiji will be fielding a strong side.

Fiji Football Association vice president and national team director Tarunesh Reddy has urged the fans to come out in numbers to support the team.

Reddy said the fans had been calling for international fixtures.

“The team has been in camp since last week and Buzzetti has been working with the combinations,” he said.

“Though Tonga is not renowned in the sport, we will not underestimate them. They are for the World Cup qualifiers and have been training for some time."

Both Tonga and Fiji are ranked 198 in the world.

Fiji will face American Samoa in another international on August 27 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Reddy said they were still finalising a tour for the national side to Asia.
