Get ready to flip: Motorola could be bringing back the Razr

Break out your old emo albums, dust off Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and get ready to text like it’s 2004. Motorola could be bringing back the Razr.

It has been 12 years since Motorola released the Razr V3 and now the company is hinting at a comeback. In a new video, high school kids straight out of a Nickelodeon teen drama obsessively text on flip phones, probably about Ashlee Simpson and Myspace.

The only other information Motorola shared was the line, “Flip back to the Razr days of yesteryear and get ready for the future.” What does that mean? It’s not clear! But you better practice your T9 skills just in case flip phones come back in style.

Last week, Motorola unveiled two new smartphones, the Moto G Plus and Moto G Play, neither of which can be flipped open. The former comes with a camera that Motorola boasts ranks higher than the camera on the iPhone 6S. It’s currently available in India and should “arrive soon” in other markets around the world.

As for the potential Razr, we will know what Motorola is planning on June 9, 2016, according to the video. The original Razr V3 sold more than 50 million units between 2004 and 2006 and, yes, you can still buy one on Amazon today. In related news, people are now nostalgic about 2004, meaning we are all very, very old.
