Isolated Tongan island gets solar lights

Solar powered street lights have been switched on for the first time on the island of Nomuka in Tonga.

The lights are among more than a thousand given to the Ministry of Environment by China for distribution to isolated islands in the country.

At a commissioning ceremony this week, the Chinese Ambassador Huang Huaguang said the new lights would provide security and convenience for the people on the island in the Ha'apai group.
