LMMA training for team from Tonga

A team of 6 members which included Project Coordinator, Technical Officer, Officer from Fisheries, 2 Town Officers and 1 District Officer travelled to Fiji to exchange learning with Fiji on how their Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMA) is set up.

The team also gained understanding on how communities are engaged into conservation, their government structure and lessons learn for better planning and implementation for Tonga R2R project Special Management Areas program. As project is looking to kick off their implementation phase next year, learning from Fiji's successful stories on setting up conservation management programs and other environmental successful activities is a good learning experience for the project as something to be adopted and applied to Tonga.

The team said it is looking forward to host the Exchange Learning trip next year.
