According to local journalist Anasilini Ratuva, the country is hoping to collect medals in rugby 7s, athletics, netball, soccer, weightlifting, powerlifting, swimming, volleyball, table tennis and Va'a.

Fiji is the current gold medal holder in the team men’s beach volleyball, men’s shooting, women’s rugby 7s, women’s powerlifting 84kg category, weightlifting, karate, men’s javelin throw and men’s 4x100m Relay, 100m and 200m sprints.

“Team Fiji preparation is well underway and as teams approach the final phase of preparation, they’re now focusing on team bonding and psychological preparation.

“Our Fiji athletes were told during a recent team bonding that they need to psychologically prepare themselves now after the physical workout, they just need to tune the mindset right,” Ratuva said.

Rodan stated that Team Fiji has prepared well for the two weeks competition as they know how hosts country PNG is longing to meet them at the Games as every country is aware of how strong Fiji is.

The first batch of athletes and officials is due to arrive in Port Moresby on Wednesday 1 July on a chartered flight.

Fiji came fourth behind PNG at the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia winning a total of 130 medals including 33 gold, 44 silver and 53 bronze.
