Tongan MP says public should get behind govt

A Tongan MP says members of the public should stop criticising and get behind government to move the country forward.

RNZ reports 'Akosita Lavulavu was responding to a question about the public criticism of the lack of progress in Tonga's mostly commoner government, the kingdom's first since democratic reforms in 2008.

Mrs Lavulavu said the government is only halfway through its term and still has time to achieve its policy goals.

"I think that we actually need to stop criticising and support the government, the current government and support our leaders and our members in parliament. You know to get the ball rolling, get work done and they can get a lot and so much more done in the next two years," she said.
