Warriors break losing streak

The Warriors have broken an 11-game losing streak by beating the Newcastle Knights 40-18 in their National Rugby League (NRL) match at Auckland.

The streak stretched back to July 2015, making Monday's round four victory their first this season.

The home side was strengthened by the return from injury of Isaac Luke and Manu Vatuvei, who both scored tries, and the promotion from reserve grade of popular centre Konrad Hurrell.

The Warriors scored seven tries, with Solomone Kata, Ben Matulino, Blake Ayshford, Tuimoala Lolohea and Shaun Johnson also crossing the line.

The Knights reached an early lead following tries to Sam Mataora and Dane Gagai before the Warriors drew level at half-time, 12-12.

The second half was one-sided, with the Warriors running in five tries - although they were disappointed to let Nathan Ross slip through to grab one back for the visitors.

The victory pushed the New Zealand team up two places, from second to last on the ladder into 13th, while the Knights dropped to 15th.

Next week, the Warriors will hope to record back-to-back wins with an away game against the bottom-of-the-table Sydney Roosters.
