Pacific comedy favourites return to the stage

The very best of island comedy spiced-up with a little bit of magic is what the Naked Samoans are bringing to the stage for the Auckland Arts Festival.

The Poly boys, who introduced their own brand of comedy then went on to produce favourites like BroTown and Sione's Wedding, are back with a vengeance.

This time they're working in collaboration with Wellington theatre company The Conch to stage Naked Samoans Do Magic.

Shimpal Lelisi says theatre is where it all started for them.

"We've been off stage for about 12 years," he says. "Because we started on stage, stage has always been one of our first loves.

Lelisi will return to the stage for the festival at the Civic Theatre early next year, alongside Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Mario Ngaoa, Robbie Magasiva and Iaheto Ah Hi.
