Chairman of the Oceania Regional Anti-doping Organisation (ORADO) Cyrille Mainguy called on Sports Ministers and governments of the Pacific to support the work to deliver clean Games in the region.
“We want clean games and clean athletes,” said Mainguy while addressing the 5th Pacific Sports Ministers Meeting in Port Vila, Vanuatu prior to the start of the 10th Pacific Mini Games.
Mainguy says they hope to carry out 40 tests at the Vila Games.
ORADO has so far carried out 316 urine tests and 40 blood tests in 2017.
He says that for the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea 2015 and New Caledonia 2011, ORADO carried out 350 tests respectively.
Each test costs the host country USD$475.
Sports Ministers congratulated ORADO for its testing programmes at the Mini Games in conjunction with the Government of Vanuatu and agreed to the following:
• Endorse the implementation of the International Convention Against Doping in Sport.
• Support the adoption of the World Anti-Doping Code by National Sports Organisations in respective countries.
• Acknowledge the efforts of ORADO in advocating, promoting and coordinating the fight against doping in sport in the Oceania region.
