The restoration comes two weeks after the outage due to a major fibre break in a third party-owned cable.
To ensure that customers could still communicate despite the issues, Digicel moved quickly to offer alternative connectivity using satellite bandwidth - and is now giving customers free data to thank them for their patience.
All prepaid customers will receive double data when opting-in to any data lahi plans via the My Digicel app or by dialing *123#. All postpaid mobile customers will receive 5GB bonus data valid for two weeks.
Digicel Tonga CEO, Francis Thomsen said, “We take our responsibility to keep our customers connected very seriously and that is why we moved heaven and earth to ensure that we could provide alternative connectivity options for them as the core issues with the fibre break were addressed.”
