No resolution to SBW and sponsor's logo

There's still no resolution over All Black and Blues player Sonny Bill Williams and his decision to tape over a sponsor's logo on his Blues jersey on a matter of conscience.

A statement issued by the Blues this morning says they and New Zealand rugby have been in discussions with sponsors BNZ and will announce the outcome of those shortly. The statement said neither the Blues nor Williams will be making any comment prior to that.

Under their collective contract players can lodge conscientious objections to promoting finance, alcohol, tobacco, gambling companies and banks.

RNZ Sport understands Williams had told the Blues he didn't want to have BNZ on his jersey, but that they hadn't made a personalised one for him in time for his return to the playing field.

It's understood Williams didn't cover over the logo of international banking group Investec, who's logo appears on all of the New Zealand Super rugby jersey's, as he was unaware they were a bank.
