Tyrone Roberts is set to put a frustrating 2017 season behind him and ink a new deal with the Titans despite the uncertainty around who will be the club's head coach for next season and beyond.
Roberts has made a return to his favoured five-eighth position in recent weeks but has started at fullback, in the centres and at hooker during the course of an injury-plagued season for the Gold Coast club.
The Titans presented a contract offer to Roberts' management midway through the season which was initially rejected but the two parties have re-opened negotiations and the 26-year-old is hopeful of committing to the club prior to the off-season break.
"I want to [stay]," Roberts told NRL.com. "We're in talks now so hopefully we'll get it done in a couple of weeks."
With one game remaining against the Roosters on Saturday night Roberts has something exciting to look forward to in the off-season with his wife Brittany due to give birth to the couple's second daughter in the next two weeks.
Having spent the majority of his childhood in Ballina before moving to Newcastle to complete his schooling and eventually link with the Knights, the Roberts family have made a happy home since moving to the Gold Coast two years ago and the Country Origin rep says his family's happiness is his No.1 priority in deciding his future.
"Family. That's my main priority," Roberts said of the factors in determining his decision. "I've got another girl coming now in two weeks so family is the most important thing for me.
"My wife is happy here and we're happy so hopefully there's some good news in a couple of weeks and we can relax and enjoy the off-season."
Due to undergo minor shoulder surgery once the Titans' season is completed, Roberts made no secret of his desire to continue to partner Ash Taylor in the halves but former coach Neil Henry opted to start the season with Kane Elgey in the No.6 jersey.
When the likes of Nathan Peats and Jarryd Hayne suffered injuries early in the season Roberts was shuffled around the team's key positions but said he was happy to do what the team required during a difficult period.
"It's been hard. I've been put in different positions and I can't do nothing about that," said Roberts, who played 97 games for Newcastle before joining the Titans last season.
"Because of the injuries that we did have I felt to me that I was the only one that could fill most of them roles.
"I just did what was best for the team and being the player that other players want to play with.
"That's what I base myself around, being a player that other players want to play with.
"I'm sure they enjoy me being around here so hopefully we'll get some good news in a couple of weeks."
