Savea and Evans escape punishment

The Hurricanes duo Julian Savea and Gareth Evans have been issued warnings by SANZAAR following last night's 24-12 loss to the Brumbies.

Evans was issued a warning for gripping a player around the head and neck while Savea was warned for lifting a player beyond the horizontal line while cleaning out a ruck.

Evans was deemed to have contravened law 9.20, which states a player must not make contact above the line of the shoulders, when allegedly gripping around the head/neck region of his opposite number in the 62nd minute.

Savea was deemed to have contravened law 9.11, which states a player must not do anything that is reckless or dangerous to others.

In the 78th minute the former All Blacks winger is alleged to have lifted Naisarani from the ground and thrown him past the horizontal when cleaning out in a ruck.

Neither incident warranted a red card according to the citing commissioner.

The Hurricanes have lost three matches in a row but remain in second on the New Zealand conference.
