Tonga 7s inspired by rugby league win against Australia

The Tonga Men’s 7s team is drawing inspiration from the upset caused by their Mate Ma’a Tonga brothers against Australia last weekend.

Team Manager Seluini Iloa says they are looking forward to displaying the same spirit at the grounds come game time at the Oceania 7s this week.

“That was a big win for all of Tonga. We look forward to put the same spirit into this weekend’s tournament.”

The team arrived in Fiji on Monday night and began training at Suva’s Albert Park the next day.

“It’s great to be back in Fiji and adapt for one of the region’s greatest sevens tournaments,” he said.

Iloa adds the tournament is extra special since the Olympic qualification is on the line.

“Every team coming to the Oceania 7s wants to qualify for Japan and that includes us.”

“Every player in the team knows what’s at stake this weekend and they are ready to do their part for our people our king and our country.”

Tonga is in Pool C with Australia, Nauru, American Samoa and Vanuatu.

The tournament starts Thursday.
