PNG athlete joins international women’s seminar

One of PNG’s female athletes, Sharon Kwarula, is part of the International Association of Athletics Federation Women in World Athletics seminar hosted in London.

The International Athletics Federation Gender Leadership Taskforce has identified a need to provide specific leadership and development opportunities for aspiring female leaders within the sport of athletics.

Kwarula was selected along with other representatives from the Oceania Region; Eritabeta Teaiwa of Kiribati and New Zealander Annette Purvis.

The three Oceania delegates will join 31 others representing Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.

The aim of the seminar is to support the delivery of the IAAF and Oceania Area’s minimum gender targets and will include such topics as the under representation of women in athletics and why diversity and gender equality is important.

Importantly, the seminar will provide aspiring female leaders with excellent networking opportunities and establish relationships with mentors to assist in their own personal development.
