PNG snooker president passes on

The Papua New Guinea Billiards and Snooker fraternity is in mourning following the death of its president, Peter Fong.

Vice president of the PNG Billiards and Snooker Association, John Chan, said Fong passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning after an asthma attack in Kavieng, New Ireland Province.

“I received a phone call very early in the morning from Kavieng that Peter passed away following a massive asthmatic attack.

“It is very sad indeed to hear of this news and to pass it on to all our billiards and snooker members around the country is even harder.”

Peter Fong won several Moresby and Alotau Open Titles as well as the coveted PNG National Snooker Titles.

He was serving his 7th two-year term as president of PNG Billiards and Snooker Association.

“This is a great loss to our sport in PNG and in the region,” Chan said.

“On behalf of every billiards and snooker player, referees, administrators, sponsors and supporters, I convey our sincere sympathies and condolences to his wife and family on the passing of her husband, their father, grandfather and the Fong families in PNG and overseas.

“May God comfort you all during this time.”

Late Peter Fong is survived by his wife Carmel, two sons Nathan and Krispin and three grand-children.

Funeral details will be released in due course.
