Tongan Government and Digicel collaborate to support ‘Ikale Tahi

As part of the government’s initiative to support Tonga’s national rugby team, hundreds of Tongans were able to watch the ‘Ikale Tahi team play live against Wales last Friday.

The match was broadcast live by Tonga Broadcasting Commission (TBC) co-funded by Tongan Government.

Apart from TBC broadcasting the match live, nine villages in Tongatapu were able to watch the game in church halls and town halls through a partnership between the Ministry of MEIDECC and Digicel.

Digicel Tonga provided nine antennas and Digi TV boxes while the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Finance and National Planning, Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of MEIDECC provided projectors and screens for the halls. A team from MEIDECC also provided technical support in setting up the antennas and the Digi TV boxes.

These villages included Kolovai, Nukunuku, Houma, Kolonga, Tatakamotonga, Vaini, Havelu, Hofoa and Ma’ufanga. The game was also broadcast live at the Digicel Square in Nuku’alofa and it was packed with rugby fans from the town area.
