Tonga Police arrest four over drug-related offences

The first raid was on the evening of Thursday, 9 February 2023 at a residence at Malapo where two male persons, aged 31 and 36 were arrested together with 3.06 grams of methamphetamine, one .22 rifle with a magazine containing ten . 22 live bullets, cash TOP$478.50, and drug utensils.

The second and third raids were made at Hala’ovave on Friday, 10 February 2023, with the second made at a residence while the third was effected on the Sūnia ‘Akaveka Road.

4 arrested in Tonga drug raids

Police seized 21.54 grams of methamphetamine, over TOP$6,000 pa’anga cash and drug utensils during these arrests.

All the suspects have been charged accordingly and will appear in court at a later date.

A/Deputy Commissioner Tevita Vailea says the arrests show that those who are seeking to profit from the harm these drugs cause can continue to expect to be targeted by Police.

“Drugs have no place in our community; they destroy the lives of the users, harming our children and our communities. We hope these arrests will bring some reassurance to the community.”

4 men apprehended in Tonga drug bust

Police seized 2 packs of cocaine (1.04 grams), 1.43 grams of cannabis, 2 live .22 bullets and over $5,000 pa’anga cash in the raid over the weekend.

The four suspects all in their 40’s are from Kolomotu’a, Kolofo’ou, Fangaloto and Vaini.

They have been charged accordingly.

“These arrests should reassure the community that preventing illicit drugs supply is a high priority for Police. We will continue to target those who supply drugs within our community, and hold them to account for their crimes,” said A/Deputy Commissioner Tevita Vailea.
