PNG broadcaster eyes Tonga TV station

Papua New Guinea's Click TV has started negotiations to purchase a licence to operate in the kingdom.

Click TV's Richard Broadbridge arrived in Tonga Thursday to hold talks with potential partners. The move was welcomed independent radio broadcaster, Maka Tohi.

“A second TV station will allow for more local content and non-government broadcast material," Tohi said.

“It's a huge challenge for non-state entities to find space on the government station.

“Hopefully an independent commercial station will give us space to produce and broadcast local material.”

A variety of broadcasting services for PNG consumers

“When people are given the choice, they select which one they want to go based on quality of service and hopefully, the prices will all come down, which is ultimately what the consumers of this country need.”

This was said by National Information & Communications Technology Authority CEO, Charles Punaha, during the Papua New Guinea broadcaster, Click Pacific’s, launch of their new satellite hub in Rainbow, Port Moresby, with both O3b data and C-band Television up-linking technology.

Click-TV to partner PNG Fashion Week

The one year old television station in PNG teamed up with the committee only last week, for a three year contract.

Announcing the partnership yesterday at the newly built Stanley Hotel and Suites, Ruth Kekedo of Click TV said this move is to promote PNG culture.

“This is a wonderful synergy to provide a good platform for PNG to promote our culture and that’s one thing that Click- TV embraces – the promotion of PNG culture,” Kekedo said.
