Guerrero cleared for World Cup after FIFA reduces ban

The 33-year-old was given a year-long suspension earlier this month after he tested positive for cocaine following a World Cup qualifier in October.

FIFA partially upheld his appeal against the sanction after the Appeal Committee of world football's governing body heard his case. His ban has been reduced to six months, meaning he will become eligible to play again in May next year.

An official with the state attorney's office said on Thursday that gunmen had shot state police chief of detectives David Urquizo Molina.

About two hours later, authorities pursuing the suspected gunmen killed three people.

Three others were wounded and seven were arrested.

Footage from the scene shows those wounded being treated by paramedics.

Amnesty: Mexico bodies report highlights 'shocking' crisis

The international human rights watchdog calls the situation "shocking" — not only in the state of Guerrero, where the students disappeared last September, but also elsewhere in Mexico.

Amnesty's statement Monday came in response to an AP report the previous day in which federal officials said the bodies had been found in 60 clandestine graves over the last 10 months.
