Tongan activist Kefu’s death now treated as homicide

A press release will be released today, Acting Police Superintendent Tevita Vailea told Kaniva News last  evening.

He has refuted social media speculation regarding Kefu’s death as wrong but he did not provide any details about it.

As Kaniva News reported Saturday, unconfirmed reports claimed Kefu’s body was found at a beach in Tatakamotonga.

Kefu worked as a communication advisor for the Tonga Red Cross.

He was also the president of the Tonga Leitis Association and was known to many from all walks of life.

George Floyd death homicide, official post-mortem declares

He suffered a cardiac arrest while being restrained by Minneapolis police officers on 25 May, the report found.

It listed Mr Floyd's cause of death as "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression".

The examination also showed he had heart disease and recent drug use.

The findings of the official post-mortem were released shortly after those of a private examination carried out by medical examiners hired by the Floyd family.

Suspect arrested in death of Tongan man

Stuff.co reports Police executed a search warrant in south Auckland on Wednesday morning and the man arrested for drug offences allegedly connected to the incident.

The man is the third person to face charges in relation to the circumstances surrounding Ula's death, Detective Senior Sergeant Christiaan Barnard of Kapiti-Mana police said.

He will appear at Manukau District Court later on Wednesday charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply and conspiracy to supply methamphetamine.

Tongan in custody on homicide charges

According to a press release issued by Bountiful Police Wednesday, police responded to a residence near 1400 East Lakeview Drive Sunday.

A family member who had not seen their loved one in several days found 50-year-old Rand Hatch deceased. Police say there was evidence to indicate trauma and noted Hatch’s vehicle had been stolen from the residence.

The investigation led police to 22-year-old Taniela Siale Lopiseni Salakielu, who was identified as a person of interest. After interviewing Salakielu, police say the man admitted to arguing with Hatch at Hatch’s residence.

Tonga police investigate death of young man

Acting Chief Superintendent, Tevita Vailea said this is based on information they have received.

Matangi Tonga reports the body of 22 year old Kevini Maka was recovered from the waterway next to Popua Park in Nuku’alofa.

Vailea said the post-mortem was completed on Friday September 8 and they are waiting for the report.

“However, we have information now to confirm that we are treating this case as a homicide,” he said.
