Code hopper Hayne only landed in London on Monday, hours after quitting American football where he played last year as a running back for the San Francisco 49ers.

He cited the August Rio Olympics as his primary motivation for walking out on a lucrative NFL contract to link up with the world beating Fijians.

On arrival in London on Monday, Hayne claimed he was taking baby steps as he worked towards fulfilling his Rio ambition.

Ryan made this remarks after reports suggested he had been left out of the squad for this weekend’s London Sevens.

After quitting NFL franchise the San Francisco 49ers this week, the former NRL star announced his intention to qualify for the Olympics with the rugby sevens’ gold-medal favourites.

Reports stated that the crosscode star has missed out on the 12-man squad named by coach Ben Ryan. However Ryan, the former England coach, insisted that a decision has yet to be made.

Hayne quit the NFL on Monday in a bid to play rugby union sevens at the Rio Olympics later this year.

Speculation is rife he will return to rugby league next year, after leaving in 2014 to pursue his American dream.

Sydney Roosters, who are around $600,000 under this year's salary cap - money that could be used a sign-on fee for Hayne - remain the favourites to snare the former Parramatta superstar.

Hayne made the stunning decision to walk away from the NFL and the San Francisco 49ers, saying he "could not pass up" the chance to feature at the Olympic Games.

The former rugby league star has quit the NFL in the United States and will join Fiji's sevens team in London for this weekend's World Series finale.

Jarryd Hayne said Fiji reached out to him about being a part of their Olympic campaign and it was a chance he could not pass up.

But head coach Ben Ryan insists his place in the squad for Rio is not guaranteed.

A squad of 24 will assemble in June for training camp before being whittled down to a final 12, an exercise Ryan likened to Britain's Got Talent or the X Factor.

But despite the rumour mill going into overdrive after Jarryd Hayne was unknowingly photographed in conversation with Roosters coach Trent Robinson, this wasn't the secret NRL meeting to lure Hayne back to rugby league many hoped it was.

The photograph was taken at a hotel in the Sydney CBD on the eve of the Liverpool Legends match against the Socceroos legends at ANZ Stadium last week.

The 49ers announced they would take four running backs into Sunday's (Monday 10.25am NZT) game on their home field Levi's Stadium.

Hayne fans might call his return to the 49ers' 53-man squad a Christmas miracle, while others upset at the injury-ravaged team's treatment of the former NRL star the past two months probably would call it karma.

The 49ers announced on Sunday they have promoted Hayne and inserted him back in their 53-man active roster, making him eligible to play the Detroit Lions on Sunday (Monday 5am AEDT).

After the final regular-season game, which this season is January 3, teams begin signing practice-squad players like Hayne to reserve/future contracts. These contracts lock in a player for the start of the league year in early March when teams' roster sizes go back to 90 players.

The 49ers are likely to offer Hayne, who was their most exciting prospect during the preseason, one of these contracts. Whether he signs it or not will depend on whether he feels he can get a better shot with another squad.

FRU chief executive officer Radrodro Tabualevu, while applauding former Fiji Bati fullback Hayne's selection, said it was the best news ahead of the Flying Fijians tricky opener against home team England at Twickenham.

Radrodro said the FRU was confident that Hayne's transition from professional rugby league to American Football together with all his achievements as a professional sportsman was an inspiration for the Vodafone Flying Fijians.

"His achievement thus far is remarkable and manifests a nothing is impossible attitude," he said in a media statement.
