Mayweather-McGregor ticket sales top $76 million

Mayweather scored a 10th-round TKO victory over the UFC star to move his boxing record to 50-0 at the August 26 bout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission released the figures for ticket sales on Thursday (NZ time), which showed a live gate of US$55,414,865.79, ESPN reported.

That was made from the sale of 13,094, well short of selling out the 20,500-capacity arena, with 137 complimentary tickets given away to VIPs.

Ringside tickets to the Mayweather v McGregor fight went for up to $138,000, but a British bartender managed to upgrade his seat for free.

Oliver Regis bought a ticket to the weekend's super fight between UFC star Conor McGregor and unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas. 

But when he got there, he wasn't happy with his seat and decided to take matters into his own hands.

According to the release from Fathom Events and Mayweather Promotions, what people see at the theatres will be identical to the pay-per-view broadcast on August 26.

"The buzz that my fight against Conor McGregor is getting has been great already, so what better way to watch this larger than life event than on the big screen?" Mayweather said in a statement.

"We brought boxing back to movie theatres eight years ago and it was a huge success.
