Prince wrongful death legal claims dismissed

Legal claims had been filed against a doctor who prescribed Prince pain medication and a pharmacy that supplied him with medicine.

Dismissals usually occur after a settlement has been reached, but such agreements often remain confidential.

The 57-year-old died in 2016 after an accidental overdose of the painkiller fentanyl at his home in Minneapolis.

Claims that had been filed against the Walgreens pharmacy chain and Dr Michael Schulenberg, who treated Prince in the weeks before his death, have been dismissed.

Singer's family sues doctor over opioid addiction

A lawsuit filed in Minnesota, reported by ABC news, alleges that failures by Dr Michael Schulenberg played a "substantial part" in the star's death.

Prince died in 2016, aged 57, from an accidental overdose of the painkiller fentanyl, a powerful opioid.

Dr Schulenberg has denied any wrongdoing.

Earlier this year, prosecutors said no criminal charges would be brought over Prince's death.

But the family's lawsuit, filed in Hennepin County District Court on Friday, alleges that Dr Schulenberg's actions had played a part.

Tidal goes after Prince's estate

CNNMoney obtained a copy of the petition which was filed Friday. It outlines an agreement between Tidal -- owned by the rapper Jay Z -- and Prince made before the pop star's death in April from an accidental overdose of the opioid fentanyl.

According to the document, Prince granted Tidal worldwide digital streaming rights to his next two "newly recorded and previously unreleased full length studio albums" in 2015.

The singer was well known for protecting his music, pulling it from You Tube and declining streaming services requests.

The specialist, Dr Howard Kornfeld, was unable to make it from California to Minnesota immediately but sent his son.

In a strange turn of events, it was his son, Dr Andrew Kornfeld, who called police after joining Prince's staff to search for the missing singer.

The Kornfelds' lawyer said neither had met Prince before his death.

Prince: Court appoints administrator over estate estimated at $300 million

Kevin Eide, a district judge in suburban Carver County in Minnesota, said he heard no objections during a conference call with parties of interest and ordered a more formal hearing on Monday.

He appointed Bremer Trust, whose Minnesota-based parent Bremer Bank had long helped Prince handle his finances, to serve as the administrator of Prince's estate for six months or until a personal representative is appointed.
