Spain and Nigeria deadlocked at 1- all at halftime

It was a good start to the match with both teams having equal possession of the ball in the first three minutes of the match.

Nigeria's Lillian Tule received a yellow card in the 5th minute which Spain used in its advantage.

 Spain's Midfielder Alba Redonzo found Nigeria's net a minute after, registering its first goal in the 5th minute.

Nigeria responded with its first goal in the 11th minute which was scored by midfielder Ihuoma Onyebuchi leveling the points at one all.

Consistent selections made as Tonga seek another win

Leicester star Telusa Veainu starts at fullback with David Halaifonua pushed back to the bench by Coach Toutai Kefu.

Last week the team beat Spain 28-13 and Kefu said it wasn't a great performance.

"We left a lot of points out on the field. We committed way too many errors. Over 20 turnovers, 95 percent of those were unforced turnovers, so a lot of mistakes. I think you can put it down to probably first time playing together, limited preparation, so I am expecting a far more polished performance this week."

Japan goes down to Spain 1-0

Although Japan provided stiff opposition for the reigning champions, a direct penalty kick conceived by Maria Caldentey from a hand ball by Hisui Haza ultimately gave Spain a fairly comfortable victory.

As is so often the case, Japan struck at the opening minutes in the first half with several attempts by skipper Ruka Norimatsu culminating Japans circuit on the pitch but Spain backliners could not allow Japan forwards through as both teams went off for break at nil all.

Tonga overwhelm Spain at Madrid

The win was promising for Tonga’s coach Toutai Kefu as some of his most experienced old guards including Vuna Cooper, Nili Latu, and Sona Taumalolo, had been side-lined with injuries.

Spain beat Canada 5-0

The Spaniards dominated the first half in its match against Canada at the Bava park.

With the setting sun behind them, they registered their first goal in the opening minutes of the match with a kick from number 9, Lucia Gomez.

The side captained by No. 7, Nahikari Garcia,  had more possession of the ball in the first half than the Canadians.

Canada's defenders came under heavy attack in the first half with Spain having more attempts at the goalmouth.

The Spaniards found the net again at the 30th minute with a kick from No. 20, Lucia Garcia.

Scores injured in gas explosion near Malaga, Spain

The blast happened in a cafe in the town of Velez-Malaga at about 17:00 GMT during a local festival.

Pictures from the scene show severe damage to the La Bohemia cafe and debris strewn across a street.

Local newspaper La Opinion de Malaga said that the chef had raised the alarm moments before the blast.

Unity the key for Lopetegui

Spain picked up an impressive 2-0 victory over Belgium on Thursday in Lopetegui's first match in charge since replacing Vicente del Bosque as coach.

It was confident display from the former world and European champions, with Lopetegui particularly pleased with the unity shown by his side.

And that is something the 50-year-old wants to build on as they begin their World Cup qualifying campaign against Liechtenstein on Monday.

Spain and Italy advance to last 16

Croatia's match against the Czech Republic was held up for several minutes after their fans threw flares on to the pitch and began fighting among themselves.

Eight flares and other objects landed on the pitch near to riot police, who had been deployed in front of the section housing Croatia fans.

The trouble broke out in the dying minutes of a game that Croatia were leading 2-1.

Spanish siblings kept man in cage for 20 years 'for his own good'

For years, the man, identified as Carlos RR, was allegedly kept locked in the tiny three-square-metre room in his family home near Seville, Spain, and made to sleep on a filthy mattress surrounded by his own excrement.

Police have arrested the man's brother, 76, and sister, 61, for the alleged imprisonment of their younger brother who suffered severe brain damage, according to local news reports.

The man's mental disabilities stemmed from an undisclosed incident when he was "very young", according to Spanish-language news oulet El Pais.
