Cannery in American Samoa shuts down production

The cannery, which employs some 2,100 workers, usually shutdowns production towards the end of the year for two weeks allowing StarKist Samoa to carry out maintenance and other upgrades.

However, this time around it is three weeks.

StarKist's corporate spokesperson Michelle Faist said production would resume on January the 15th.

But she did not respond to questions as to why this shutdown was three-weeks and not the usual two weeks.
