3 new charges against man accused of killing state trooper

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says Kevin Daigle was booked Wednesday with second-degree murder in the death of 54-year-old Blake Brewer of Moss Bluff.

A news release says investigators believe the same shotgun was used to kill both Brewer and Senior Trooper Steven Vincent.

Daigle also was booked with stealing the truck that he had run into a ditch before Vincent found him Sunday, and with possessing a firearm after a felony conviction.

Other drivers stopped to help, said Sgt. James Anderson, southwest Louisiana spokesman for state police.

"As I understand it, they rendered aid to the trooper, they called for help using the trooper's radio, and they detained the suspect," he said.

He said the officer was in critical but stable condition Sunday evening, and the man accused of shooting him was also in a hospital.
