Tonga expresses interest in hosting 2027 Pacific Games

At the Pacific Games Council AGM on Sunday, Tonga was one of six nations to say they're interested.

Tonga belatedly withdrew from hosting this year's games and is being sued by the council for breaching the hosting agreement.

However, the Tonga committee vice president Amanaki Fakakovikaetau said there's hope the country can host the games in the future.

He said the committee didn't know the 2027 games was on the meeting agenda so had to act quickly.

Tonga bids to host 2018 Media Summit

The Kingdom’s bid was confirmed at the 4th Pacific Media Summit in Koror, Palau, where the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA), conveners of the biennial Pacific Media Summit, held its Annual General Meeting.

While Tonga’s written bid included the support of the Tongan Government, conveyed through a letter from the Ministry responsible for Information and Communication or MEIDECC, Papua New Guinea’s bid was without any support letter from their Government.
