Wayne Rooney

Mourinho I miss Rooney a lot

Rooney, 31, made his return to Everton earlier this month, ending a trophy-laden 13-season stay at Old Trafford.

United and England's all-time leading goalscorer, Rooney made just 15 Premier League starts in 2016-17.

But Mourinho is already missing the forward and said he would be tough to replace.

"I miss him a lot, I miss the guy a lot, I think he's a fantastic guy," the Portuguese tactician said, via The Telegraph.

Rooney I'm not coming to a retirement home

The former Manchester United captain has returned to Merseyside after 13 years with United and still feels he has a lot to offer at the age of 31.

Rooney revealed he had other options but a move back to Everton was the only one that interested him once manager Ronald Koeman made his interest clear.

"I always play like I have got a point to prove," Rooney said at his presentation on Monday. "I'm not coming into a retirement home. I want to play, I want to win. It is a challenge I need at this point in my career.

Rooney thanks Manchester United

The forward secured a switch back to Goodison Park on Sunday, 13 years on from his transfer to United as an 18-year-old.

Manager Jose Mourinho and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward spoke in glowing terms about Rooney's achievements at Old Trafford, which included winning 12 major trophies and breaking Bobby Charlton's record as the club's leading goalscorer.

Rooney models Manchester United's new home kit

Rooney fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford during Jose Mourinho's first season in charge, in which he only made 15 starts in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old rejected the chance to leave the club in January but he has been heavily linked with a move before the start of next season, with former club Everton and teams from the Chinese Super League reportedly interested.

Those rumours increased when Rooney was removed from United's Facebook cover when their away strip for upcoming season was launched last month.

China move good for Rooney – Sven

Eriksson, who has managed Guangzhou R&F, Shanghai SIPG and Shenzhen FC, insists foreign players are treated magnificently in the country and feels Rooney would be able to settle easily.

After making what could be his last United appearance as a late substitute in the Europa League final last month, the 31-year-old revealed he has "lots of offers from England and abroad" and was close to reaching a decision on his future.

Rooney left out of England squad

The 31-year-old forward, who has lost his place in Manchester United's first team, was also left out by England earlier this year for matches against Germany and Lithuania.

Southgate named a 25-man squad which includes Tottenham Hotspur right back Kieran Trippier for the first time.

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, who scored on his return to the international scene against Lithuania in March after a long absence, retains his place in Southgate's plans.

Rooney apologises after drunken images emerge

The England captain was pictured in the Sun newspaper looking worse for wear having dropped in on a wedding party over the weekend following Friday's victory over Scotland at Wembley.

"Naturally Wayne is sorry that pictures taken with fans have been published today," the statement said.

"Although it was a day off for the whole squad and staff, he fully recognises that the images are inappropriate for someone in his position.

Rooney understands united axing

Although he started in the EFL Cup, Rooney was dropped in the wake of United's 3-1 loss at Watford last month.

The England international understood manager Jose Mourinho's decision after his display at Vicarage Road.

"Listen, I had a bad game at Watford. I played bad, I know that and I understand that," Rooney said, via The Independent.

"I think if he was picking the next team on the back of that, I understand not playing. The team have done well, certainly in the Leicester game since that.

'Champion' Rooney not ahead of my players – Ranieri

Rooney's displays for United have been criticised after Jose Mourinho's men went on a three-match losing run, ended with a victory over Northampton Town.

Ranieri was full of praise for the England international ahead of the Premier League meeting between the clubs at Old Trafford on Saturday.

However, the Italian said he preferred the players he had at his disposal ahead of Rooney.

Under-fire Rooney hits back at 'rubbish' criticism

United faced scrutiny after losing three straight matches before ending the run in a 3-1 EFL Cup win at Northampton Town on Wednesday.

Skipper Rooney has faced particular scrutiny over his form, with many pundits questioning whether he remains worthy of a starting berth in Jose Mourinho's line-up with the 30-year-old scoring just once in five Premier League outings.

But England's record goal scorer is paying little attention and says that the criticism aimed at him is nothing new.
