Beauty in LED lighting!

There is beauty in LED lighting.

LED stands for light-emitting diode (LED). A diode is a semiconductor device with two terminals, typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only. This product (LED) is assembled into a lamp (or light bulb) for use in lighting fixtures.

To understand it, LED lighting is based on semi-conductor technology such as your flat screen TV, mobile phones, etc.

According to energy.gov, LED is one of today's most energy-efficient and rapidly-developing lighting technologies.

Quality LED light bulbs last longer, are more durable and offer comparable or better light quality than other types of lighting.

Leading light specialist, OSRAM, has introduced its products into PNG market. And one thing Neil Fonseca, Channel Head Trade, is quick to point out is the price compared to quality.

“The beauty is that the price keeps going down but performance keeps going up. So it’s a benefit for every customers, especially in PNG, because electricity cost is so high, almost K1 per kilowatt/hour,” he said.

He explains that LED helps reduce the overall cost by almost 70 percent, in some cases maybe even 80 percent.

He gives an example:

“Imagine if you have a house with 10 lights – old tech consuming 100 watts. When you change to LED – that’s 10 watts in and you’re saving 90 watts. If you calculate per kina depending on the hours you use, you can save K2-3000 in 2 years’ time. That’s big money for an average customer. Same thing with LED tube lights.”

He said OSRAM has made that option available to Papua New Guinea. The products have 3 years’ warranty, with Australia and New Zealand certification of highest standard.
