Digicel Tonga ICT Specialist attends regional Cybercrime meet in Moldova

Aisake Lalahi, ICT Specialist with Digicel Tonga had the opportunity to join delegates at the Regional Meeting: Cybercrime Corporation Exercise held in Chisinau, Moldova on 26th to 30th March 2018.

The meeting was attended by 46 participants from 11 countries across the globe.  Tonga was the only country in the Pacific part of this Cybercrime Cooperation Exercise.

In today’s evolving world of change, there has been an increasing number of attacks against computer systems and data has become a growing concern for both cyber security professionals and the law enforcement.  Cybercrime today is driven mostly by financial gain hence the rapid detection and action on illegal money laundering now happening across the Internet world.

To address these changes, the Cybercrime Cooperation Regional Exercise was organized to feature specific focus on communication protocols and practises in case of cyber incidents and cybercrime investigations.

The objective for countries like Tonga was to transfer best practise in countering a national level Cybercrime campaign, get a broader understanding of the need to exchange information between different professional communities in real time, demonstrate the need for public-private partnerships in cybercrime and cyber-security in order to get access to data held by private companies, encourage the use of common approaches and methods for processing electronic evidence in both cyber security incident handling and criminal/financial investigations on the basis of internally accepted standards.

For Lalahi, it was the privilege to represent Digicel Tonga Ltd but to also be representing his country.

Tonga is the very first national CERT in the Pacific established to address and respond to computer incidents, raise awareness and focus on building capacity of ICT professional.
