Carpentry equipment donated to Fokololo Technical Institute

Fokololo Technical Institute in Nuku’alofa has received sets of carpentry equipment from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day (LDS).

The Principal of the institute, Talanoa Hafoka said this is not the first time they have received assistance from the church.

The donation was a gift of appreciation from LDS to the school after the completion of a project.

“We built a house at Liahona Farm, the work was about to be tendered but due to our close partnership we were happy to assist them. We signed an agreement with LDS and the work was supposed to be completed in three weeks but our carpentry students under the supervision of our staff were able to complete it within a week,” he said.

“We are grateful for the assistance because we have limited carpentry tools and equipment here at school. This donation will help us with the continuous training of students.”

Speaking on behalf of the church, Area Welfare Manager in the Pacific Area, Hans T. Sorensen encouraged students not to give up easily and to pursue a career in whatever field they desire.

He added that the church and Fokololo have been working in partnership for many years in numerous projects and the donation was an expression of thanks for their support and strengthening of that partnership.

“This school has been a wonderful resource for us in the church, it helps train a lot of our young men who were going to work on a church project in Ha’apai to build houses for those who were affected by the cyclone a few years ago. We have kept that partnership with them and we have a few more other projects together with these students and so these gifts that we are offering is just an expression of our thanks for all of their support.”

Hans said the gift are tools that students can use in Fokololo for their education, from power tools to hand tools such as hammers and others.
