Fonua-Helu is Tonga’s new Honorary Consul of the Republic of Finland

Amelia Fakahikuo’uiha Liliui’okalani Fonua-Helu has been appointed as the new Honorary Consul of the Republic of Finland to the Kingdom of Tonga.

Prime Minister Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa presented the Honorary Consul with the Letter of Exequatur on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga.

The letter now grants Fonua-Helu the authorisation to exercise honorary functions, conduct official duties and to access provisional benefits stipulated in the 1963 Vienna Conventions on Consular Relations.

She was a former Senior Officer at the Tonga Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including an overseas posting as a Diplomat of the Kingdom of Tonga to the People’s Republic of China, Beijing.

Fonua-Helu and her husband own a number of businesses, including, JH Electrical Contractor and Supplies, JH Mortuary Freezer Hire, JH Heavy Machinery Hire Pool; AJ Fabric Store, and a finance company

The installation of the Honorary Consul and the officiating of a Finnish Consulate office in Tonga will take place in December 2019, during an official visit to Tonga of the Ambassador of Finland to Tonga, according to a Press Statement from the Honorary Consulate of Finland.
