More drugs arrests in Tonga

A 27 year old man from Fanga is now in police custody after he was apprehended as part of an on-going drug-related investigation in Kolomotu’a early this morning.

Police say the arrest was made as their officers executed a search warrant at a residence.

The suspect has been charged with possession of illicit drugs and will appear at the Fasi Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 6 June 2017.

During the search, Police confiscated 43.89grams of cannabis (88 small bags and 1 large bag) and 14grams of methamphetamine (28 small bags and 6 medium bags).

Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said everyone in our communities has a right to be safe and feel safe whether they are at home or at work.

“The community can help stop the availability of illegal drugs by reporting suspicious activity to Police. By working together we can make a difference and stop the crime and social harm associated with this illegal activity.”

Late last month, two men were arrested in Kolomotu’a while a third was caught in Ha’akame for drug-related offences.

Marijuana and methamphetamines were seized during the arrests.

The public is being encouraged to report any information that they may have on drug-related offending to the Police.
