Senior civil servant appointed Commissioner for Tonga for ASTANA EXPO-2017 Kazakhstan

Chief Executive Officer for MEIDECC, Paula Pouvalu Ma’u is the new Commissioner for Tonga to the Astana Expo-2017 and the Chief Executive Officer for Tourism, Fekita ‘Utoikamanu is the Deputy Commissioner.

Ma’u attended the 3rd International Participants Meeting held in Kazakhstan last month.

There were more than 300 delegates from over 100 countries around the world to finalize preparations for this world renowned event.

The Astana Expo-2017 is scheduled to take place from June 10 to September 10, 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The main theme of EXPO-2017 is “Future Energy” reflecting the preoccupation of the international community with the problem of energy consumption, that increasing impacts on our planet especially on Climate Change.

The main objective of the exhibition is to call for responsibilities, foster a discussion, and develop knowledge to enable planning and controlling energy consumption thus minimizing the damage to the environment.

Astana EXPO-2017 has set tasks to gather the best developments in ecology in order to demonstrate future energy as well as the problematic issues of developing countries interconnected with the country needs.  

The leading world experts who have been invited for this global event will discuss ways to make “green energy” available, sustainable and economical of the main development trend for supplementary decades.

During the meeting, the Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Mr. Vicente Loscertales emphasized the importance of the “Future Energy” and its relevance across the globe as reflecting by the high number of international participants.

Participants from the Pacific region agreed to appoint Ma’u not only the commissioner for Tonga but also the commissioner for the Pacific pavilion for the Astana Expo-2017 in Kazakhstan.

He would be the main focal point of contact for 11 Pacific countries that have confirmed their participation in the Expo.

This important global event represents a unique promotional opportunity for Pacific Island countries in order to promote a sustainable future energy, launch an image of the Pacific Islands inspired by their symbiotic relationship with the ocean and by sustainability as well as highlight the region’s investment appeal to mitigate climate change.

Nevertheless, Tonga has the opportunity to showcase richness of its natural and cultural diversity during this 3 months period and especially on the “Tonga National Day” at the Astana Expo-2017.
