Tonga police investigate death of young man

Police in Tonga are treating the case of the discovery of a young man’s body in a canal as homicide.

Acting Chief Superintendent, Tevita Vailea said this is based on information they have received.

Matangi Tonga reports the body of 22 year old Kevini Maka was recovered from the waterway next to Popua Park in Nuku’alofa.

Vailea said the post-mortem was completed on Friday September 8 and they are waiting for the report.

“However, we have information now to confirm that we are treating this case as a homicide,” he said.

Maka’s body was found in a new canal situated between the golf course of the Popua Park and Patangata area on September 5, by people from the surrounding area.
