Tongan teenagers charged with murder of Chinese couple

Two teenagers aged 15 years and 17 years have been arrested and charged with murder in Tongatapu.

It’s alleged the two murdered a Chinese couple aged in their early 50s last weekend.

The bodies of the couple were found in a bush allotment at Matafonua last Sunday, 25 February 2018.

They had multiple stab wounds on their bodies and their vehicle was reported missing.

Deputy Police Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai has confirmed that the teenagers were apprehended on Thursday.

“I commend the police investigators for their commitment and hard work which results in a quick arrest. This arrest provides reassurance to the family of the deceased and the Community,” Vaisuai said

Police investigations are continuing.

The double homicide had shocked the community as residents were reeling from the effects of Cyclone Gita which hit the country earlier last month.
