Young Tongan man identified as victim of fatal Auckland house party

New Zealand Police have identified the victim of a fatal house party as 25 year old Reginald Sharma who is of Tongan and Indo-Fijian descent.

Sharma was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning at after an Auckland house party turned fatal, despite efforts to save his life.

According to Stuff.co, there were reports of rowdiness and fighting at the party on Haughey Ave in Three Kings - described by residents as an otherwise quiet street - prompted calls to police around 3am.

Police found Avondale resident Sharma in a critical condition in the driveway.

The 25-year-old's death is being treated as suspicious and police are still looking into exactly what happened. They confirmed his name on Monday after speaking to family.

Sharma was one in a "number of separate groups" that met up at Gemini Bar in Otahuhu before heading to the Haughey Ave address in Three Kings around 2.30am, police said.

A group of young men, described as Maori and Polynesian, aged between 18 and 25, helped Sharma by putting him into the recovery position, Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe said.

"These three stayed with the young man and continued to assist him after others had left the address."

Police were hoping the men would come forward to help with the investigation.

A local resident who did not want to be named said the area was fairly quiet and nothing like this had ever happened before.

Another Haughey Ave resident said: "I didn't hear anything, but we've noticed in the last couple of months a lot of unknown cars parked around there".

There were concerns the street was becoming unsafe, she said.

The house where the party is believed to have taken place belonged to Housing New Zealand.

A number of people are being spoken to, and police are still urging anyone present at the party to come forward.

They are asked to call the Auckland Police Crime Coordinator on 09 3026 557 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
