Renovation of Tanoa International Dateline Hotel Nears Completion

Renovation of the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel in Nuku’alofa, Tonga is nearing completion.

According to the General Manager in Nuku’alofa – Peter Kurds, the renovation costs up to TOP$18 million.

Radio Tonga reports the hotel has 124 rooms, a restaurant and bar.

“So it’s a soft opening. We still have few things to finalize that’s why we call it soft opening in issues. We will open one restaurant in the beginning in November 1st and our second one will come shortly after that. We’ve completed all the roofing East Wing and North Wing being the wing that overlooks the ocean and East Wing in on corner Vuna Road are almost wing. The West wing will come on a little later by the end of December. The main restaurant will come in the middle of December”.

Meanwhile training continues for local staff and some are being sent overseas.

Kurds says there will be a soft opening on November 1st with around 60 staff.

The official opening of the hotel by His Majesty King Tupou VI is scheduled for February 16, 2017.

The official opening will also increase the number of staff to a total of 90.

“So our booking from November 1st, it’s a little bit of a quiet season from now but from February next year we do see a good growth in our business particularly for cooperate and conferences and you know it’s always been our dream to have our property on the Kingdom of Tonga and we’re delighted to refurbish the Dateline and really looking forward for the market and growing of tourism in Tonga”.
