Six Chinese nationals who are charged in relation to an ATM scam in Fiji allegedly had more than 400 ATM cards in their possession.
The six appeared in the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday and were further remanded in custody.
This caused a scene outside the courthouse as the six started crying and shouting.
The accused refused to go back into custody.
Divisional Prosecuting Officer Western, Assistant Superintendent Anil Prasad said the six tried to harm themselves by hitting their heads on the walls.
He said more police officers were called in to help the escorting officers.
They were taken back into custody by the police officers.
Meanwhile Prasad says the six were allegedly found in possession of 384 ATM cards.
Another 104 ATM cards, a card making device and a laptop were found inside a sofa in the hotel room where the men were staying.
Prasad said they are working with Chinese police to assist in the translation of the information found in the laptop.
Prasad informed the court that they are still taking the statements from people and more charges are expected to be laid against the six Chinese nationals after the investigation is completed.
The matter is adjourned to the 8th of next month for mention.
The six have been charged with four counts of theft and four counts of dishonestly obtaining or dealing with personal financial information.
