Australia supports Pacific basketball’s female leaders

Gender-based violence is a key development focus in the Pacific. Through the Australia Awards Fellowships the FIBA Oceania's Women in Basketball Empowerment program is helping female leaders in sport make a change.

The program aims to identify, support and train women leaders involved in basketball in the Pacific region. This support builds the capacity of women through a multifaceted training regime that develops leadership, governance, public speaking and negotiating skills.

The fellows had the opportunity to learn from some of Australia and the Pacific's most experienced basketball administrators, who shared their knowledge and experiences of working in the field.

The fellows aspire to leading their own basketball federations and, with the skills they developed and networks they made in Australia, they are on their way.
