The makers of a documentary film about former Papua New Guinea politician Dame Carol Kidu have denied her claims that it seriously misrepresents her involvement in a controversial land development.
Radio Australia reports her lawyers will be seeking an injunction in the New South Wales Supreme Court on Friday to halt the screening of the film The Opposition by novice documentary director Hollie Fifer.
The film portrays Dame Carol as a hero for standing up to land developers razing a shanty town to make way for a hotel in Port Moresby's Paga Hill, but she says she was trying to help squatters move to better accommodation elsewhere, not stopping the development altogether.
The film's producer, Rebecca Barry, says Dame Carol's accusations are simply wrong, and the film ought to be screened as planned.
