Duke of York arrives in PNG

His Royal Highness The Duke of York Prince Andrew touched down at Port Moresby international airport at 5:10pm on board PNG’s falcon jet today.

Greeted by a 21 gun salute, he was received by Acting Governor General and Parliament speaker Theodore Zurenuoc, foreign affairs Minister Rimbink Pato, Sports and Pacific Games Minister Justin Tkatchenko, NCD Governor Powes Parkop and other government dignitaries.

In a short ceremony, the Duke inspected the guard of honor before heading to the Airways hotel.

The prince is here on invitation by the PNG government to open the XV Pacific Games on Saturday July 4th.

Meantime, reporters and photographers were kept at least 10 meters away from the Duke and many could not get proper pictures.

Papua new Guineans who gathered since 1pm did not get a proper look at the prince.

Sam Kaupa, a resident of six mile who was there since 2pm says he is disappointed that he did not get to see the prince properly.
