Adele may be storming the charts and breaking the internet with her single Hello but Lionel Richie has called dibs.
Soul singing legend Richie joked with attendees at a charity ball about the lyrical crossover and said he had a word he wanted to reclaim.
"Girlfriend came along and said 'hello, it's me'," he said.
Richie was performing at the second annual ball for the Clara Lionel Foundation, a charity established by singer Rihanna.
